A former police officer has been arrested after a gang rape in South Africa.
At the end of July, heavily armed perpetrators attacked a film crew in the village of Krugersdorp near the economic metropolis of Johannesburg, which was shooting a music video in a disused mine.
The attackers raped eight women between the ages of 19 and 35 and stole purses, cell phones and jewelry.
A police spokeswoman for the dpa news agency said that the former police officer, where the victims' property was found, recommended the location for the filming to the film crew.
The woman is accused of theft and other illegal activities.
Seven men have been charged with multiple rapes and aggravated theft since early August.
The case against her is ongoing.
According to the police, many of the suspects are foreign workers who were illegally panning for gold in closed South African mines.
A total of 84 suspects were arrested in a raid in one such mine, the police said in August.
Two other suspects were killed in a shootout with police.
A third was injured and taken to the hospital.
In a circular, President Cyril Ramaphosa condemned the "horrible acts of brutality".
He called the gang rape an "affront to the right of women and girls to live and work in freedom and security."
Sexual assault is a big problem in South Africa.
According to police statistics, 10,818 people were raped in the first three months of this year alone.
However, police believe the number of unreported cases is much higher because most cases go unreported.
