More players played "FIFA 23" in the launch week than in any part of the series before.
And that, despite the reviews.
Whether "FIFA 23", "NBA 2K23" or other sports games: Every year a new version is released - every year the question arises: What exactly is different?
The developers usually only change nuances that only die-hard fans really recognize.
Nevertheless, the games are sold again every year at full price - for the new consoles this is now around 80 euros, not to mention the special editions and the many in-game purchases.
But the "FIFA" series is one of the most popular video games ever, not just among sports simulations.
That's why many gamers can't resist when the new virtual soccer season starts.
"FIFA 23" has now broken a memorable record for release.
Never before have so many players played in the first week as in the latest offshoot.

EA announced in a press release that a total of 10.3 million players played "FIFA 23" within the first week.
"The response from our fans has been incredible, and we're thrilled to see our community playing in record numbers with their favorite players and teams in FIFA 23," the message said.
In addition, major updates are still to come with the FIFA World Cup for women and men.
"FIFA" games will be called "EA Sports FC" from 2024
It would be a fitting farewell for EA to the FIFA brand.
As has been known for some time, the video game publisher loses the license rights.
However, fans needn't worry as the football sim will continue into next year - under the title EA Sports FC.
This takes some getting used to, but according to EA, nothing will change at the core of the game.
All the necessary licenses from the largest football clubs and leagues have already been secured.
Nevertheless, fans can be curious about what will ultimately remain the same and what will change.
