"I am always in the service of Rome".
Russell Crowe received today in the Capitol, from the hands of the mayor Roberto Gualtieri, a plaque of thanks as Rome's ambassador to the world.
"Russell is one of the most extraordinary actors of cinema and art, and a great lover of Rome," said Gualtieri during the ceremony.
"I showed him my office and next to him was his. Welcome to your office, Russell: these doors are always open to you."
The Oscar winner has chosen the capital for the world launch of his second film as director, Poker Face: the film will have its world premiere on October 16 in the program of Alice in the City and the Film Festival.
"With the Gladiator, Crowe has made a huge contribution in restoring interest in ancient Rome," said Gualtieri.
"Every time he tweets about our city, the numbers are incredible. The Romans love him."
"I have a deep connection with this city," confirmed the actor.
"I have always appreciated the generosity and kindness of the Romans".
