(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 15 - Clashes and a fire broke out in the infamous Evin prison in Tehran, where political prisoners are held and where, according to what had been learned after his arrest on 28 September, the Italian Alessia would also be found Piperno.

Hundreds of those arrested during the protests that set fire to Iran after the death of the young Mahsa Amin are held in this prison, where according to human rights NGOs torture is also used.

According to several sources, the fire broke out later after a riot of detainees that affected section 7 of the prison.

Witnesses said gunshots were heard and groups of people gathered near the prison shouting slogans.

According to Irna, which quotes a senior security official, the fire started from section 7, the one where inmates and prison guards met.
