Over 4 million people in Kenya are starving and in dire need of food.
This was announced to the media by the Secretary General of the Kenya Red Cross, Asha Mohammed, stating that the number of significantly undernourished citizens has risen by one million in just ten months.
This was reported by the website of the newspaper 'Nation'.
Mohammed warned that the number of people in need of help could exceed 4.5 million by the end of the year, as October-December rains are expected to be scarce.
"We are struggling with the worst drought that has hit the country in the last 40 years - he specified -, with the intensification of the crisis, the needs of the community continue to increase".
According to the National Drought Management Authority, more than 1.2 million head of cattle have already died due to lack of rain in arid and semi-arid counties.
