“Le Point”: Valérie Toranian, new editorial director

2022-10-18T08:54:40.824Z

The former boss of ELLE and the Revue des Deux Mondes replaces Sébastien Le Fol. The latter had been weakened since the false allegations implicating the deputies LFI Alexis Corbière and Raquel Garrido.

The Aziz Zemouri affair ended up costing Sébastien Le Fol his job.

In the hot seat since the publication of an investigation by the journalist wrongly accusing the couple of deputies (La France insoumise) Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière of exploiting an undocumented cleaning lady, the editorial director of Le

Point

has just to be thanked.

He is replaced by Valérie Toranian, the current boss of the Revue des Deux Mondes (owned by Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière).

“A huge thank you to

Sébastien Le Fol who will leave Le Point in a few weeks”,

published Monday evening on Twitter Etienne Gernelle, the director of the weekly, making the rumor which had been circulating since Friday afternoon October 14 and an indiscretion of

The Letter A

information.

Former journalist for Le Figaro, Sébastien Le Fol joined the magazine in 2013.

François Pinault, owner of the weekly magazine via his Artémis holding company, did not appreciate this episode.

Beyond that, the businessman would also be worried about the series of departures in progress in recent months within the editorial staff.

His absence, at the end of September, at the party organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the magazine had not gone unnoticed.

At the beginning of the summer, an investigation was opened within the editorial staff of Le Point, to understand how the false information of journalist Aziz Zemouri could have been published.

At the microphone of Europe 1, Étienne Gernelle had affirmed that Aziz Zemouri had

"completely lied"

to his hierarchy on the interviews carried out as part of his investigation into the couple of deputy, but also on the documents in his possession, and the how he got them.

In his message to employees, Etienne Gernelle for his part justified this end of collaboration with Sébastien Le Fol by

“a major disagreement on the way to implement the new projects of the newspaper”

.

Le Point

is thus preparing to open a new page with the arrival of Valérie Toranian as editorial director.

Before La Revue des Deux Mondes, the 60-year-old journalist was the head of the women's magazine

Elle

from 2002 to 2014 .

She is also the wife of Franz-Olivier Giesbert, former director and still a columnist for Le

Point.

In a message published in the evening of Monday evening on Twitter, Valérie Toranian said she was

“very happy to soon join the Point team.

A magnificent new professional adventure alongside Etienne Gernelle”.
