The annual global risk assessment report published these days reveals the most dangerous countries in the world to visit in 2023. The report, prepared by the Global Guardian company, presents the countries of the world on an interactive map where the risk ratings and conflict zones are visible.

In addition, the map highlights areas where geopolitical tension exists and assesses the chances of escalation and their possible effects.

The ranking of the countries includes five danger classifications: "extreme", "high", "medium", "moderate" and "low".

Mexico: popular but dangerous

The countries that are considered "extreme risk" according to this report are Ukraine, Pakistan, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Afghanistan, the Central African Republic and Burkina Faso in West Africa.

It is interesting to discover that the report reveals some popular vacation destinations as having a moderate risk.

For example, a number of destinations that are also loved by Israeli tourists, including Thailand, India and Turkey.

This is due to the criminal cases that occur in them.

Mexico, which is a popular global tourist destination, has been labeled as "high risk" due to violence involving the cartels, including in popular tourist areas.

The Independent website reports that countries marked as "extreme risk" are those where there is an active conflict and a high level of criminal activity and civil unrest.

This ranking also indicates that the government institutions in these countries are unable to curb militant groups or large-scale disasters.

An example of this is Ukraine, regarding which the report even states that "Russia's invasion of Ukraine led to dramatic increases in energy costs against the background of already high global inflation. Russia's hold on a large part of Europe's natural gas supply directly threatens Europe's energy security. Ukraine and Russia form a large part from global food and metal exports, and further disruption of these supply chains will continue to negatively impact European food supply and production."

The Israeli connection

As for Israel - according to the report, Israel is classified at a medium risk level (orange color).

According to the general definition of this classification, these are countries where there is a hole in political stability and insufficient law enforcement, making these countries vulnerable to crime or unrest.

Specifically, Israel was also characterized by "geopolitical risk", related to local or regional conflicts.

Also in the Israeli context, it is a conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the authors of the report state that among the potential escalation factors are scenarios such as Hizbullah's attack on the "Shark" reservoir as well as an Israeli pre-emptive strike on the Iranian nuclear facilities.

Along with Israel, Iran and Egypt were also marked as medium risk.

Syria was classified as an extreme risk, Iraq and the Palestinian Authority at a high risk level and Saudi Arabia - at a moderate risk.
