After a major police operation in Dresden, the identity of the dead man recovered from an apartment has been clarified.
As the police announced on Thursday, it is a 26-year-old man.
On Wednesday, he had handled two weapons at the window of the apartment in Dresden's Hechtviertel.
According to the police, he later threatened to detonate an explosive device there.
So he triggered the large-scale operation.
When the first emergency services arrived, the man fired a pistol several times and then threw it in the direction of the officers, the police said.
The man's weapons were probably not dangerous
After the emergency call, the police evacuated the house and cordoned off a large area of the site.
A special task force (SEK) moved in.
A negotiating group from the State Criminal Police Office and explosives experts were also deployed.
When the SEK entered the apartment, there was a fire.
Investigators assume that the man himself set fire to various parts of the apartment.
His lifeless body was recovered by firefighters.
As it turned out, his weapons were probably not dangerous: It is said to be a blank pistol and an airsoft weapon in the form of a submachine gun.
They were secured, the police said.
The man's motive is still unclear.
An autopsy of the body should clarify the cause of death.
Six police officers had to be rescued by the fire department
On Thursday, the fire brigade announced that they also had to save six police officers from the flames during the large-scale operation.
They were injured by inhaling smoke, treated at the scene by an ambulance and then taken to hospitals by ambulance.
