Herbert Grönemeyer comes to Munich – and speaks at the university

In May 2023 Herbert Grönemeyer will play in Munich's Olympiahalle.

In December he was invited by the Poetry Cabinet to the Munich university.

Title of the evening: "In the text tunnel - the words have to be in the music".

“I always go to bookshops and ask the saleswomen: what is your favorite novel?” revealed Herbert Grönemeyer some time ago in an interview with the “Münchner Merkur” (read our interview with Herbert Grönemeyer here).

At that time, the singer and composer said that he was looking for a musical material.

When he is back in Munich in December, however, the focus will be on the 66-year-old's own texts: Grönemeyer comes at the invitation of the poetry cabinet, which is supported by BMW, and speaks on December 8, 2022, 7 p.m titled "In the text tunnel - the words must be in the music" about rhythm, rhyme and the process of creating his melodies and texts.

And since the small, fine rooms of the Lyrik-Kabinett at Amalienstraße 83a are not big enough for the expected rush,

Grönemeyer, who celebrated his breakthrough as a musician in 1984 with the LP "4630 Bochum" and whose album "Mensch" has been sold more than 3.6 million times, will perform together with Michael Lentz.

With this musician, the music is "unthinkable" without the lyrics, explains the literary scholar.

Grönemeyer's “some of the texts are also poems, and not in the sense of 'lyrics' – a term that has meanwhile been worn down to the point of being useless.

The two men have known each other for a long time.

For example, Lentz wrote the foreword to the Grönemeyer photo book by photographer Anton Corbijn, which was published by Schirmer/Mosel;

he also included the singer's texts in the anthology “Inthis Land.

Poems from the years 1990-2010” (S. Fischer).

For the DVD "Mensch - Live" they talked in front of the camera.

This is now being continued at the university.
