As the co-creator of the television series "Lost" and "The Leftovers", three-time Emmy Award winner Damon Lindelof is one of the premier screenwriters in the US film and television business.
Most recently, his comic adaptation »Watchmen« was highly praised.
US industry media have now confirmed rumors that have been circulating since March that Damon Lindelof is working on a Star Wars film.
As initially reported by the online magazine "Deadline" with reference to several insider sources, Lindelof is to develop a material together with a co-author who has not been made public, for which the director has already been determined.
As the sources told Deadline, it is important to both the production company Lucasfilm and Lindelof that the director's vision for the film is incorporated early in the writing process.
As a director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was looked out for, as confirmed by Variety magazine.
The Pakistani-born Canadian is a two-time Oscar winner for short documentary films about abuses in her native country.
In the field of fictional entertainment, the 43-year-old recently attracted attention as the director of several episodes of the Disney+ series »Ms.
Marvel«.
Several series from the "Star Wars" universe had recently been shown on the Disney streaming service, including "The Mandalorian", "The Book of Boba Fett", "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "Andor".
»Star Wars« last took place in cinemas in 2019, when the third trilogy of the science fiction saga ended with »The Rise of Skywalker«.
Since then, according to Variety, a Patty Jenkins film expected for 2023 has been removed from the studio's announcement lists.
An unnamed "Star Wars" film is still listed there for 2025, it is said.
But various projects, including Taika Waititi, Rian Johnson and Kevin Feige, do not have a start date yet.
Lucasfilm did not want to officially comment on the Lindelof development that has now become known.
