(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 26 - In Italy no more than 3 Giga Watts of renewables will be installed by the end of the year.

This is the estimate of future electricity from the data of the first half of 2022, presented at the webinar Electricity and storage systems, plus energy for the transition.

The country thus appears to be lagging behind the association's 2030 Electricity Development Plan for Italy.

The plan included 5 GW of new renewables this year to reach 85 GW of new renewable power in 2030 which would lead to 84% of renewables in the electricity mix.

The result, however, represents an acceleration compared to the average of the previous years of 0.8 GW.

"The new government should also find itself in these objectives: those of achieving 85 Giga Watts of new renewable power by 2030", says the president of ElettricitàFutura, Agostino Re Rebaudengo.

"Most of it will be photovoltaic but also wind power, some dihydroelectric development and the maintenance of bioenergy and other biomass.

This also involves a very important development of storage systems", explains Re Rebaudengo.

The association estimates that, for this year and for the next, the current storage capacity may be sufficient to meet the growth of renewables, but from 2024 it will have to increase annually in a "very important" way.

The electricity development plan for Italy, implemented by the association, provides for a large additional storage requirement of 80 Gigawatt hours (GWh) by 2030.

The benefits envisaged by the plan range from 309 billion euros of cumulative investments in the electricity sector and in the supply chain up to a reduction in the emissions of the electricity system of 64 million tons of CO2 and 470,000 new employees by 2030.
