The holidays are behind us, and here comes the fall and winter seasons.
Many people take advantage of this period in favor of surgeries and aesthetic treatments.
The cold days, long clothing and avoiding exposure to the sun will facilitate the recovery process of various surgeries and treatments, in which edemas, swellings and hemorrhages can form, which heal better in cooler weather.
Within the range of treatments, the experts, the institutes and the networks that offer them, it is important to make order and not be tempted only by the prices of the treatments and surgeries.
A patient is exposed to an abundance of options, but also to edited pictures that do not necessarily reflect the real results of the treatment, promises that cannot be realized in reality, and above all - people lack real information about the expertise and professionalism of the clinics, institutes or doctors.
It is important to note that surgery is not only the surgical procedure itself, but a complete process, which begins with consultation and diagnosis, goes through the day of surgery and continues to recovery.
A wrong choice can lead to a host of problems and even endanger life.
Here are 8 highlights that are important to go through before choosing a plastic surgeon or medical body.

1. Preliminary consultation The
vast majority of doctors and institutes offer a consultation free of charge or the cost of which is included in the price of the procedure.
It is important to schedule the consultation with the doctor you are interested in and arrive prepared with questions and expectations regarding the procedure.
A professional and experienced doctor will know how to listen, diagnose and adjust the right treatment for you (whether it is treatment, surgery or a combination of these) - and more importantly, he will know how to describe already at this early stage, what result can be achieved.
2. Coordination of expectations
At this stage it is important to tell the surgeon about your expectations from the procedure - what you imagine, what you are aiming for in the end, and to understand from him whether it is feasible and what it entails - both the financial price and the physical price - pain, or recovery time.
Coordination of expectations is critical to the feeling with which you will end the process.
It is possible that the surgery you were thinking about cannot give you the desired look or the process involves a price that you cannot afford.
3. Beware of inaccurate pictures, at "flattering" angles and filters
A picture is worth a thousand words, and this is sometimes exploited by the marketing and media people who provide their services to the surgeon.
That is why it is so important to look at the images directly on the surgeon's computer or tablet and talk to him about the images.
In addition, it is important already in the consultation session to be impressed by the doctor himself and not only by the before and after photos that you were impressed by.
It is also possible and desirable to request photos of the scar that remains after the operation, their location and appearance at each stage of recovery.
It is very important to try and find the same photos where you see a patient who is similar to you (in terms of skin type or body shape and circumference, for example).
4. Professionalism and experience of the surgeon in his field
It is important to check whether the surgeon is an expert in plastic surgery (an expert in plastic surgery is only someone who holds an expert certificate in this field from the Israeli Ministry of Health) and a member of the Israeli Association for Plastic Surgery.
Any doctor recognized by the union will be happy to show you the certificate.
A professional doctor will also reveal to you the risks and complications that can appear during and after the procedure, even if it is only a low risk.
Remember that the decision to undergo surgery is yours alone, and it is important to accept it after you have known it and all the meanings associated with it.
It is recommended to get a sense of security from the surgeon and to feel that he is going with you on this journey hand in hand and knows how to treat any complication or side effect with pleasantness, maximum availability and professionalism.
5. Previous recommendations
Another way that will help you gain confidence and make the right decision is through the recommendations of patients who have already undergone a similar procedure and can testify to the nature of the process at that doctor and the institution where he works.
Today, access to this information is more available than before through social networks that allow direct contact between patients.
It is very worthwhile to avoid performing such procedures in unfamiliar institutes, and it is worthwhile to check whether the surgeon is employed by a large medical organization that offers support throughout the treatment and after it.
6. Price, price, price
Aesthetic surgeries and treatments are now offered at much more affordable prices than in years past, but at the same time, the price alone must not determine for you where to undergo the procedure.
The cost of the treatment includes the name and professionalism of the surgeon, the medical body where he works and where the surgery itself is performed, as well as the nature of the materials he uses.
Beware of low or particularly tempting prices and know that even a particularly high price does not guarantee success.
7. Medical supervision
Not on the doctor alone - pay attention to what materials the surgeon uses, are they the best quality materials on the market?
Have they been approved by the American FDA, or by the CE of the European Union and of course the Ministry of Health here in Israel.
Does the body where you will undergo the procedure have medical supervision, where will you undergo the surgery and who will take care of you if God forbid something goes wrong.
It is important to find out about the surgeon's connection to a large and responsible medical institution where the surgeon has access to optimal and professional care.
8. Also listen to your "gut feeling".
If the surgeon shows greater enthusiasm than you for the procedure, you should look into why this is happening.
In general, take a moment and listen to your gut feeling, does the doctor communicate with you freely and answer your questions with genuine interest, does he urge you to make a decision or presents you with the full list of possibilities.
A professional doctor will often reject some of the potential patients for whom this procedure may not be suitable and will recommend another treatment.
Remember that the relationship with the surgeon is expected to continue even after the procedure and sometimes years after it, so the personal and special relationship is very important in the final choice.
