For a long time - at least musically - it had been rather quiet around Rihanna.

Then, news of a Super Bowl performance gave fans hope for new material.

And now it's confirmed.

Rihanna is back with a new single after a long break.

The 34-year-old singer from Barbados announced on Wednesday (local time) the song "Lift Me Up" for a Friday release.

The song is the lead song for the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is due to hit theaters in mid-November, according to Marvel Studios.

»Lift Me Up« was co-written by Rihanna, Nigerian singer Tems, Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson and US director Ryan Coogler.

According to Marvel Studios, the song pays tribute to actor Chadwick Boseman's "extraordinary life and legacy."

The music was recorded in five countries.

Black Panther star Boseman died of cancer in 2020 at the age of 43.

However, director Coogler and Marvel Studios are sticking with a sequel to the 2018 box-office hit, featuring many of the actors from the original film.

From the previous cast, stars like Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o, Letitia Wright and Martin Freeman are back on board.

A big event is coming up next year

Music icon Rihanna ("Umbrella") released her last studio album "Anti" in 2016.

On May 13, 2022, she gave birth to her first child.

The boy's name is not yet known.

Rihanna has been dating rapper A$AP Rocky for a long time.

They only made their relationship official last year.

In May 2021, A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, called Rihanna the "love of my life" in GQ magazine.

When asked if he was ready to be a father, he said, "I think I would be an incredible, remarkable, all-round great father."

It was announced in September that the Grammy winner will be the star of the halftime show at the upcoming Super Bowl LVII.

The National Football League championship finals will take place in February in the US state of Arizona.
