The woman whose nipple fell off while breastfeeding (brookesobasic/Tiktok)

We really don't want to stress you out.

Brooke, a mother of six from California, didn't want to either - but her story is so disturbing that women who heard it vowed never to breastfeed again.

The mother told in a TikTok video how her nipple fell off while breastfeeding her baby son - and almost suffocated him.

"I put my baby to my chest. He's nursing and then he suddenly stops," Brooke says in the video, "I look down and he's kind of choking. My nipple fell off and was left in his mouth."

The disturbing story has gained close to 2 million views.

The 32-year-old mother said that before the shocking incident, her nipple began to turn black at the base and turn white at the tip.

The incident happened 18 years ago.

Brooke added that she was only 15 at the time - and didn't understand what was happening to her body.

She stated that the discoloration is a symptom of vasospasm, a condition in which at the end of breastfeeding or after it, the nipple turns white due to a decrease in blood flow to the nipple.

For nursing mothers, this condition of vasoconstriction can affect the flow of milk from the nipple and often indicate that the baby is not well attached to the breast.

Brooke also cited necrosis, dead nipple tissue, as a problem.

But in that nightmarish moment - and without any medical information at hand - Brooke went into hysteria.

"I don't know what the hell is going on," she recalled, adding that she was with her mother and sister, who urged her to try to reattach the nipple.

"I rinse the nipple with water and put it back," said Brooke.

She then called a nurse consultant for help.

"The nurse told me that if the nipple is still alive and has enough blood flow, it can actually reattach itself," Brooke said, adding that she placed the nipple back on her chest and secured it in place with a band-aid.

Here is the full story in two parts:

In a follow-up video, she revealed that the nipple had not reattached.

What remains is a small, flat, functional nipple.

"My nipple isn't perfect today, but it's still here," she said with a laugh, "that was the last day I nursed this child."

Although she initially vowed to "never breastfeed again", Brooke admitted that she did breastfeed her next 3 babies after the stressful situation.

"I heard that breastfeeding is painful and difficult to adapt to, but I never knew that my nipple could actually detach."

She tries to calm down:

@brookesobasic The final story time to when my nipple fell off.

I hope this eases your minds!

Many of her followers on social media had no idea that such a thing could even happen.

"Another reason to be afraid of becoming a mother," wrote one, and another added: "I don't believe that such a thing is really possible."

"My jaw dropped. Didn't it hurt?"

One question in the comments - to which Brooke responded: "It didn't hurt at all. The nerves are already gone, lol."

And now people want to buy her nipple:

Brooke realized that she had created hysteria among pregnant or lactating women and in another video assured her viewers that losing a nipple while breastfeeding is so rare - that experts didn't even give it an official name.

She noted that the incident happened almost 18 years ago, before Google enabled medical solutions or before getting help on social media was as popular as it is today.

She added: "It was back when we were told to scrub our nipples... around 36 weeks pregnant, to harden the nipples," said Brooke, who also admitted that she would aggressively stimulate her own nipples in the hope that the friction would induce labor, "so my nipples were a nightmare Even before the baby was born," she insisted.

In another video, Brooke laughed at the online crips who offered to buy her severed nipple.

She concluded: "I hope no one is afraid to breastfeed now. It was only because I was completely psychotic. Probably," she joked.
