Unknown persons attacked a caravan in front of the Iranian embassy in Berlin, which is used as a vigil.
A police spokesman said three men were injured in the clash on Sunday night.
Two of them were treated in hospital.
The investigations are now being carried out by the state police of the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) because there may be a political background.
At around 1:15 a.m., a police officer assigned to the embassy’s property security service is said to have seen three men tearing banners and flags from the trailer.
They are said to have covered their faces with towels.
The employee alerted the officers of the responsible police section and asked the men to refrain from doing so.

According to the police, the suspects then tried to open the door of the trailer.
A verbal argument and a scuffle then apparently developed with four men who were in the trailer.
The suspects ran away, the other men followed: "The four occupants of the caravan are said to have been attacked by the suspects."
Assaulted reports of threats with firearms
According to the police spokesman, three of the four men from the trailer suffered injuries.
A 37-year-old is said to have been hit in the back with a wooden stick, and he is said to have been kicked.
A 63-year-old was apparently injured with a sharp object - probably a knife - on the toe.
The two were treated in the hospital, said the police spokesman.
A 55-year-old suffered a graze.

The fourth man - a 34-year-old - was unharmed after initial investigations, said the police spokesman.
The suspects are said to have fled in a car.
The 34-year-old reported being threatened with a gun from the vehicle.
Police officers looked for the perpetrators on site, but found no suspects.
Advertisements were taken.
Posters with inscriptions such as "Iranians want democracy" and "Women's Life Freedom" could be seen on the trailer on Sunday.
The vehicle has been in front of the embassy in Berlin-Dahlem since October 17.
The action entitled »Vigil for killed women – movement, protest against terrorist regime in Iran« has been registered until November 17th.
Last weekend, 80,000 people protested against the mullahs' regime in Berlin under the motto "Women Live Freedom".
In Iran, demonstrations against the regime were triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini.
The 22-year-old died in police custody on September 16 after the vice squad arrested her for allegedly "un-Islamic clothing".
