The contribution service for ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio compares the registration data.
You want to find out who has not yet paid GEZ fees.
Kassel – Public broadcasting companies finance themselves primarily through the broadcasting fee.
That is why citizens have to pay GEZ fees regularly.
Adults will soon be receiving mail from the Posting Service.
The aim is to find out who has not yet paid GEZ fees.
Anyone who does not respond to the letter could be asked to pay twice in the future.
But what is behind it?
GEZ fees: Consumers receive mail - those who do not answer can pay twice
The contribution service for ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio compares the registration data of all adults in Germany every four years.
The aim was to "clarify which apartments have not yet paid a broadcasting fee," said a statement on Wednesday (October 26).
The comparison of registration data is regulated by law.
This primarily affects citizens who cannot be assigned to an apartment that has already been registered for the broadcasting fee.
The contribution service wants to compare selected data from the residents' registration office with the inventory data and then contacts the appropriate people.
Some consumers will soon receive post from the post service.
The aim is to check who is not yet paying GEZ fees.

Post from the GEZ: "Those addressed should react promptly"
Whoever receives the letter should report back in good time.
"Those addressed should react promptly to the clarification letter and send the contribution service the necessary information about their apartment," pointed out the contribution service.
This can easily be done online.
To do this, the QR code on the letter can be scanned with a smartphone.
Alternatively, those affected can also fill out the attached reply form and send it back to the contribution service.
The verification of the reporting data is scheduled to start on January 10, 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2023.
Contribution service checks registration data - if you don't answer, you may have to pay twice
If consumers are already paying a contribution for their apartment and provide the relevant contribution number, the contribution service will delete the data.
Those who have not yet paid a fee will be registered.

If the people you write to don't respond, it can be expensive.
"If the people addressed do not respond to the letter, the contribution service automatically registers them, since it must be assumed that the broadcasting fee has to be paid for their apartment," the contribution service explained to the German Press Agency.
So, in order to avoid double payments, you should reply to the posting service in a timely manner.
GEZ fees: Registration data comparison is intended to ensure that contributions are fair
In principle, the comparison of the registration data should ensure that contributions are fair.
"The nationwide comparison of registration data, which the legislature regulated in the Interstate Broadcasting Agreement, ensures that the data stock of the contribution service remains up to date and that all citizens participate equally in the financing of public broadcasting," explained Michael Krüßel, managing director of the contribution service.
The required data will be transmitted by the residents’ registration offices from November 6th to December 8th, 2022.
According to the contribution service, this data is:
Surname
address
PhD degree
Marital status
Date of birth
day of moving into the apartment
Who does not have to pay GEZ fees
Under certain circumstances, consumers can be exempted from the GEZ fees.
This applies, for example, to recipients of social benefits such as basic security in old age or Hartz 4. Students who receive student loans can also save on the broadcasting fees.
