Takeoff, a member of the successful hip-hop trio Migos, is dead. This is reported by gossip portal TMZ.
The 28-year-old was reportedly shot dead overnight at a Houston bowling alley where Takeoff was staying with his uncle and bandmate Quavo.
According to industry service Billboard, a private party was held at the bowling alley, which the two musicians attended alongside 40 other people.
Takeoff, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.
Quavo was not injured.
In addition to Takeoff and Quavo, Migos also included Offset, a cousin of Takeoff.
They started releasing music together in 2008, back then under the name Polo Club.
They first appeared as Migos in 2011 when they released their first mixtape.
The single "Versace" followed two years later, which gave the trio their first hit and finally brought the hip-hop variety trap into the charts.
The track was later remixed by Drake, which brought even more attention to Migos.
Finally, in 2016, the trio had a number one hit with "Bad and Boujee," a collaboration with rapper Lil Uzi Vert.
Their second album »Culture« subsequently reached the top of the US album charts.
Migos "influenced pop culture and the entire English language by bringing their North Atlanta roots into the mainstream," praised Billboard at the time.
With "Culture II" and "Culture III" they completed an album trilogy until 2021.
In addition, Takeoff released a solo album called The Last Rocket in 2018, and just last month he released Only Built for Infinity Links with Quavo.
