The French loved the slogan.
But, twenty years later, they seem to have forgotten that “antibiotics are not automatic”.
The rhyme remained, the message faded.
For months now, doctor Christophe Batard, a pediatrician in Vincennes (Val-de-Marne), has angrily observed the number of prescriptions soaring in the country.
“Doctors and patients, everyone needs a booster shot,” he warns.
According to Public Health France, which published a report on antibiotics on Wednesday, around 700 prescriptions per 1,000 inhabitants were made in 2021. This makes France still the fourth most consuming European country, behind Greece, Romania and Bulgaria.
