She has been on the run for over a year until the calf Bonnie is rescued by animal rights activists.

She joins the animals in the forest - and survives.

When the calf Bonnie is about to be loaded into a trailer, she hears the screams of other cows around her.

She gets scared.

In an unobserved moment, she gathers all her courage and flees into a nearby forest, out of Holland, a city in the US state of New York.

In the next few weeks and months she should almost become famous.

Because the escape spreads in the neighborhood like wildfire.

Hunters, slaughterhouse operators and poachers bite their teeth off her.

Bonnie remains as if she has disappeared from the face of the earth.

The calf grows up on a farm on the outskirts of town.

After the owner of the farm passed away, the family decides to sell all the animals to a slaughterhouse.

During loading, the distraught calf takes advantage of a favorable moment and gets up and away.

At the time of the escape, it's winter and some people are very worried about Bonnie.

Others try to hunt them down to get their meat.

But Bonnie remains untraceable.

Bonnie survived in the woods for almost a year - maybe because she joined a herd of wild animals.

This is proven by wildlife surveillance cameras.

Weeks later, when animal-loving woman Becky Bartels randomly checks one of her cameras, she discovers the farm animal on it.

She can hardly believe her eyes.

The herd, and Bonnie with her, must have moved on and settled on their property.

Becky knew right away that she had to help.

Actually, a cow shouldn't live outside in this cold.

Throughout the winter, she does everything she can to gain Bonnie's trust.

Every day she pulls feed and bedding through the snow with a sled so that the cattle are taken care of.

Becky's patience paid off.

Finally she is allowed to approach Bonnie and a kind of friendship develops.

Unfortunately, she cannot take in the cow herself, so she contacts the animal welfare organization Farm Sanctuary, which takes care of abandoned, abused or neglected farm animals.

They send a trained team to capture Bonnie as gently as possible.

After a few attempts it works and the cow can move safely into her new home on a farm for life.

The staff report that Bonnie has adjusted to the "Farm Sanctuary" and has even made new friends.

She is showered with care and affection, and she enjoys it to the fullest.
