The "Alien Disko" in Munich's Volkstheater has been cancelled.

A lack of funding and increased costs are forcing those responsible for the popular music festival to take this step.

It should have been a big comeback in a new place.

After the compulsory Corona break, the "Alien Disko", this fantastic Munich music festival, was to take place for the first time this year on December 9th and 10th, 2022 in the Munich Volkstheater.

Now the Acher brothers Markus and Micha from the Weilheim-based band The Notwist, who curate the spectacle and once launched it under artistic director Matthias Lilienthal at the Munich Kammerspiele, have to pull the ripcord: The "Alien Disko" is for removed from the Volkstheater schedule this year - tickets already purchased will be refunded.

"It pains us a lot to cancel," the Achers explain.

“The disco was always an affair of the heart.

We never had any money anyway, and we were able to bear small losses ourselves.”

Markus and Micha Acher started the "Alien Disko" at the Munich Kammerspiele

Now, however, funds have been lost that were previously available in addition to supporting the cultural department.

The brothers reacted to this and streamlined and adjusted the planning accordingly.

Two bands that were supposed to perform even paid for their flights to Munich themselves.

"But in the last few months, the prices for almost everything - hotels, flights, equipment - have risen so rapidly as a result of Corona that we now end up with additional costs of at least 30 percent, which we would have to pay personally, since they are sold out Festival stay as a minus.

We tried everything, asked everyone up to the last second and were sure that somehow we would make it.

But unfortunately unsuccessful”, Markus and Micha Acher regret.
