The consumer magazine Öko-Test tested 50 types of German beer.

Although some contain undesirable ingredients, there is no danger.

Frankfurt am Main – Hardly anything is as sacred to the Germans as beer.

Germany is valued far beyond national borders for its expertise in brewing the “liquid gold”.

The consumer magazine Öko-Test has now tested 50 German Pilsner beers.

A dozen of them contained traces of a spray poison, while one product even received a devastating verdict.

Öko-Test: A beer fails the test completely - it contains lactic acid bacteria

The Pinkus Pils from Münster rushed through the test with the grade "insufficient".

The reason: germs could be detected in it in the laboratory.

Pediococci, which belong to the lactic acid bacteria, would spoil the taste of the beer, as Öko-Test writes in its report.

Although this is not harmful to humans, it would result in a “considerable reduction in quality”.

This was also noticeable in the taste test, where the Pinkus Pils received the grade "poor".

Öko-Test: Traces of glyphosate were discovered in twelve beers - but the overall result was good

The product test also found questionable ingredients in twelve beers, namely the weed killer glyphosate.

However, the traces of the toxin contained in the beers were far below the permitted EU maximum.

However, since glyphosate is considered “probably carcinogenic”, this was reflected in the assessment.

Nonetheless, the injectable was found in the products of some well-known brands.

  • Tyskie Gronie Pils (Kompania Piwowarska)

  • Kaiserkrone Pils (Norma)

  • Radeberger Pilsner (Radeberger export beer brewery)

  • Lübzer Pils Premium (Mecklenburg Brewery Lübz)

  • Krombacher Pilsner (Krombacher Brewery)

  • König Pilsener (König Brewery)

  • Jever Pilsener (Frisian brewery in Jever)

  • Holsten Pilsener Premium (Holsten Brewery)

  • Flensburger Pilsener (Flensburg Brewery)

  • Breznak Original Bohemian Pilsner (Drinks Union)

  • Beck's Pils (Anheuser-Busch InBev)

  • Astra original type (Bavaria-St.Pauli)

However, the overall result was no cause for concern for beer lovers.

45 of the 50 Pils beers tested scored "very good" or "good".

It was only recently that a large German brewery had to close a production site.

With the current economy and rising food prices, consumers are probably already thinking more carefully about what they buy.

Of course, it should be a beer that is free of harmful substances and tastes as good as possible.
