The

gas bill

for families under a protected market regime is falling.

The typical household for consumption in October will receive a bill with a reduction of 12.9% compared to the third quarter of 2022. This was announced by Arera, the public agency that sets energy tariffs.

Based on the new calculation method introduced in July, the price of gas for customers still under protection is updated monthly and no longer every quarter.

The gas expenditure for the typical family in the rolling year (between 1 / o November 2021 and 31 October 2022) is approximately 1,702 euros, + 67% compared to the previous 12 months (November 2020 - October 2021).

But the president of the agency, Stefano Besseghini, invites us not to let our guard down

, always paying attention to savings and energy efficiency: 'The cost of gas for October - explains the number one of Arera - records a decrease compared to the previous quarter , but the percentages must not be misleading.

The values remain very high compared to the past and, if it is true that they had a modest impact for families in the summer period, they will determine more demanding bills with the increase in consumption in the winter season, with prices that are expected to rise due to the greater demand. of the cold months'.

According to Arera "there will be an increase in gas costs in November and December. The forecasts of this moment show us an evolution in growth of 20-25% compared to the current prices for the phase of December and January. Then there will be a trend flat for 2023 ", says Besseghini, on Sky Tg24.

The gas price component covering procurement costs (CMEMm), applied to customers still under protection, is updated as a monthly average of the price on the Italian wholesale market and published within the first 2 working days of the month following that of reference.

For the month of October, the price of the gas raw material, for customers with protected contracts, is set at 78.05 euros per megawatt hour, equal to the average of the prices recorded daily during the past month.

For those who have received a bill with the down payment value of the CMEMm component in recent weeks, the recalculation will be made in the first useful bill with the actual (lowest) value published today.

The same CMEMm value can be used by sellers to invoice, as a down payment, the consumptions in the month of November in intra-monthly bills.

As envisaged by the "Bis Aid" decree, for the whole of the 4th quarter Arera eliminated general system costs for the gas sector as well.

Furthermore, the VAT on gas has been reduced to 5%.

Also in the DL Aid bis, until the end of the year the strengthening of the social bonus for gas is also confirmed, aimed at families with an Isee level of up to € 12,000, a threshold that rises to € 20,000 for large families.

The typical family has an average gas consumption of 1,400 cubic meters per year.

The bonuses are paid directly into the bill to all eligible families, provided that they have requested an Isee for the year 2022.

"The new gas tariffs arranged by Arera for the month of October avoid a further sting for families, but Italy is not yet sheltered from the energy emergency and in the coming months prices could soar", says Codacons, commenting the reduction of 12.9% for gas bills ", writes the Codacons.

"Gas tariffs still remain excessively high and, if they were to remain stable over the course of the year, they would bring the average bill in 2023 to 1,507 euros per family - explains

Codacons .

- Considering the increases triggered between November 2021 and October 2022, the average bill has even risen by + 67% compared to the previous 12 months, reaching 1,702 euros per family, a level that must lead to keeping one's guard up. "" The real danger is represented by the fact that in the coming months, in the event of a harsh winter or problems with supplies, gas prices can jump up, completely canceling the reduction in October tariffs - explains the president Carlo Rienzi - da Arera is therefore not enough to sing victory, and it is necessary to take urgent measures to bring the electricity and gas tariffs back to acceptable levels, also in consideration of the fact that the electricity bill reached 1,782 euros per family in 2022,with a higher outlay of 662 euros per family "- concludes Rienzi.
