Fake sweepstakes and phishing emails are becoming more and more common on the Internet.

Food giants such as Kaufland and Lidl are repeatedly abused by the perpetrators for their crimes.

This is how those responsible are taking action against it.

Kaufland was recently the focus of attention on the Internet with a Nazi book scandal.

And a data leak, including customer information that can be viewed online, caused a stir, as

echo24.de

reported.

But the food giant from Neckarsulm cannot do anything for the current problems of many customers.

With so-called phishing emails or fake sweepstakes, criminals try to steal personal data on the Internet.

Not uncommon anymore.

And Kaufland and Lidl in particular are companies that are often used for such crimes.

Kaufland fake sweepstakes: police and consumer advocates warn

Just a few days ago, the police and consumer advocates again warned against a fake online sweepstakes, as dpa-factchecking writes.

A cat guessing game on Facebook is said to come from Kaufland.

It says: "On a supposedly official Facebook page of the supermarket chain Kaufland, such a competition is now being held: 'Guess how many 3-legged cats can be seen in the photo', it says in a post.

phishing email

By definition, phishing is the sending of fake emails.

People are supposed to be tricked into falling for a scam.

Phishing emails often aim to get users to reveal financial information, access data or other sensitive data.

A picture of a guessing game with outlines of cats is shared.

The first 200 users who commented on the correct answer under the post would then allegedly receive “shopping vouchers and cash prizes” from Kaufland – a real fake.

As the German Press Agency writes, the

"alleged Facebook page with the cat guessing game has only 5 followers - the real page from Kaufland, on the other hand, has around 1.47 million profiles (as of October 20, 2022)"

.

Kaufland responds to phishing emails and offers customer service

The food giant from the Schwarz Group has already reacted to the increase in these phishing emails and sweepstakes.

A website specially set up by Kaufland on the subject informs customers of the dangers and explains how to identify the fake sites.

Kaufland also provides a list of sender addresses from which the company and dealer writes to its customers:

  • Kaufland.de and Kaufland.de newsletters

  • haendler@kaufland-online.de

  • seller@kaufland-online.de

  • noreply@news.kaufland-online.de.

Kaufland also points out on its homepage that in e-mails that really come from Kaufland.de, customers can call up certain actions:

  • Confirmation of newsletter subscription

  • Choice of newsletter subscription preferences

  • Evaluation of individual products or the shop (also on the websites of external partners such as

    Idealo.de

    Shopvote.de

    trustpilot.de

    Shopauskunft.de

    Billiger.de

    ekomi.de

    Idealo.at

     and

    schottenland.de)

  • Changing the password for the customer account (only if requested by you)

  • Choosing a new password (after previous account blocking)

In addition to Kaufland, Lidl and Rewe are also repeatedly misused for fake sweepstakes

Kaufland's sister company, Lidl, has also been abused several times in the past for such fake sweepstakes.

Consumer protection has already filtered out common fraud senders:

  • Thanks to!

    -Lidl

  • LIDL

  • lidl-pren-silvercrest-lidl-cadeau@silv21.club

But the supermarket chain Rewe or the drugstore Müller are also repeatedly used by Internet fraudsters for their machinations.

And the online banking of the Sparkasse and the Volksbanken is – not for the first time – among the victims of phishing, as reported by Merkur.de.

What to do if you clicked on the fake mail?

Anyone who has now clicked on the link and entered their data on the following page should

act quickly , according to the specialist magazine

Computer Bild :

  • Change all passwords that you have entered.

  • Scan the PC for malware and remove it.

  • Anyone who has entered payment details should contact the bank or provider.

  • block credit cards.

  • You will probably receive more phishing emails in the near future.

So you should be even more careful.
