(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 09 NOV - More than 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine: the American Chief of Staff, General Mark Milley said, adding that the losses are probably of the same order from the Ukrainian side.
"There are over 100,000 Russian soldiers killed and wounded," Milley said speaking to the New York Economic Club. "Probably the same on the Ukrainian side," added the US general.
These figures are the most accurate provided by Washington to date.
The senior US military official also said he also hoped that the talks could end the war, as he said military victory may not be possible for either Russia or Ukraine.
"There has to be mutual recognition that victory in the proper sense of the word is probably not achievable by military means and so you have to look at other methods," Milley explained.
According to him, there is "a window of opportunity for negotiation".
