Do you want to save energy?

Then avoid five mistakes when heating

  • One of the most common mistakes: Turning the heating down completely when you leave the house when the outside temperature is low.

In case of doubt, this can lead to the apartment cooling down completely - and if it is particularly cold and you stay away for a long time, the building envelope can also do so.

In order to get a house warm again afterwards, it needs significantly more energy than before.

  • If the heating was turned off at night, you should never turn it up all the way if you want it to be warmer afterwards.

Because with the thermostat you only regulate the final temperature the room should reach, but not how quickly this should happen.

Anyone who sets the thermostat to level five not only waits just as long until the room is warm as with level three, the German Press Agency reports.

Instead, it may heat up at full power for much longer, according to the non-profit consulting organization co2online.

  • Furniture should not be too close to the radiator.

The sofa, for example, should be at least 30 centimeters away, according to the advice of the consumer advice center.

With curtains, you should also make sure that they do not hang down to the floor, but rather that they are a little shorter.

In this way, the heat emitted by the radiator can be better distributed in the room.

  • Have you forgotten to regularly bleed the radiators in your home?

You will notice this at the latest when one of them is no longer warm.

So it's better to think about it right away: With a bleeder key

you can let the air out of the hot radiator, advises the consumer center on their website.

However: "Both before and after venting, the pressure in the heating system should be checked and water refilled if necessary," it says.

"If your apartment extends over several floors, it makes sense to bleed the lower radiators first and then the top ones." Find out here how you can bleed the heating without a key.

  • Put a wet piece of laundry on the heater so that it dries faster?

You shouldn't do that if you want to save energy.

Because the heat output is noticeably reduced, as experts say.

So that also costs a lot of money in the long run.

Side effect: The room climate also suffers if you do not ventilate properly at the same time, which increases the risk of mold in rooms without windows.
