(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 18 - The first half of 2022 is characterized by a clear recovery in mobility and as a consequence also in road accidents, after the years in which the pandemic has seen its most acute phase.

Therefore, according to an Istat-Aci study, according to preliminary estimates, in the semester January-June 2022, compared to the same period of 2021, there was an increase in the number of road accidents involving injuries to people (81,437, equal to +24.7%), of wounded (108,996, +25.7%) and victims within the thirtieth day (1,450, +15.3%).

As expected, the Istat-Aci report notes that road accidents are also increasing compared to the first half of 2020 (accidents +64.3%, injured +63.0%, victims +43.2%).

In comparison with the first six months of 2019, however, there is still a slight decrease: road accidents -2.6%, injured -6.8% and deaths -5.5%.

In comparison with the first half of 2021, victims increased above all on extra-urban roads (+20%), followed by urban roads (+11%) and motorways (+10%).

Compared to the first six months of 2019, in the first half of 2022 the victims decreased significantly on the motorways (-11.8%) while on urban and extra-urban roads the decrease is estimated at around 5%.

For the decade 2021-2030, the European objectives on road safety foresee halving the number of fatalities and serious injuries by 2030, compared to the benchmark year (set for 2019).

Following the increase in road fatalities recorded in the first six months of 2022, the path towards achieving the road safety objectives has already started with some difficulties.
