Black Friday 2022: Bargain target Smartwatch in the test - Expensive does not automatically mean reliable readings

Smartwatches are likely to be very popular during Black Week and Black Friday.
Inspectors from Stiftung Warentest took a close look at the top models.
Munich – It will soon be that time again: Black Week 2022 starts in Germany on November 21 (Monday) and culminates in Black Friday.
As an encore there is Cyber Monday on November 28th.
Then there is again a good discount on popular items.
But be careful, not every offer on Black Friday is serious.
Smartwatches on Black Friday 2022: readings not always reliable
Items that are likely to be particularly in demand during Black Week are smartwatches.
These are available from various manufacturers, but there is often a lack of precision in elementary parameters such as heart rate and distance measurements, as a test by Stiftung Warentest shows.
It is not always the most expensive devices that measure most reliably.
In addition to measuring accuracy, the testers examined battery life, smart functions and how text messages and calls are handled on smartwatches.
Here, too, there were enormous differences.
Stiftung Warentest: Apple Watch Series 8 test winner
The
Apple Watch Series 8
performed best with a test score of 1.6 .
There were top values for the fitness functions, communication, handling and processing, but the battery life and data protection and security were only satisfactory.
With an average online price of 540 euros, a purchase on Black Friday could be particularly worthwhile.
Apple's slimmer version Watch SE
(299 euros)
landed just behind .
Garmin's Venu 2 Plus
smartwatch also achieved an overall rating of 1.7
.
At 405 euros, it is significantly cheaper than the test winner, impresses with very precise fitness functions, but performs worse in communication.

Tested only satisfactorily in this area, but with a better battery than the Apple Watch 8,
Garmin's Fenix 7 Standard Edition comes
in fourth.
At 625 euros, it is also the most expensive smartwatch tested.

The smartwatch comes in 7th place with an average online price of 135 euros and a test score of 2.1. In addition to best values in fitness functions and workmanship, it also scores points for handling and battery.
It only performed satisfactorily in data protection and communication.
