In theater management, women take center stage

2022-11-21T05:19:02.536Z

Each of these five women, at the head of a National Dramatic Center, campaigns for parity in the world of theatre. For us, in the limelight, they pose and speak.

Their names are Julie, Maëlle, Pauline, they are in their thirties or approaching their forties, they have attended the conservatory or a theater school.

Actresses, they created their collective and moved on to directing, to confront reality, to question the world, to breathe more poetry into it.

After having imposed themselves on the boards, this new generation of author-directors took the direction of theaters, national drama centers (CDN).

A Tribune

Together, the 18 directors of CDN wrote a first forum in December 2021, highlighting the inequalities between men and women.

Strong gesture: this summer, in Avignon, the men, directors of CDN, joined them, signing a Charter of parity in the programming and the means of production.

Solidarity binds these women.

Key words pepper their conversation: territory, decentralization, public service... Even if they are 46% today at the head of the CDNs, the national theaters are still managed by men... Jean Vilar said: "It is therefore to make a society, after which we will perhaps do some good theatre.

It's up to them!

BY CANDLE LIGHT

In this portfolio, we have staged these theater women surrounded by candles, as a nod to tradition.

At the end of the 16th century, the hall and the stage were one.

This space was lit by tallow candles laced with wax.

The life of a candle was twenty minutes.

Whole candles were only used during exceptional performances with the king.

With the Italian theater, in the 18th century, the banister appears in the foreground, which is a succession of candles.

From the end of the 18th century, the stage lighting revolution began with the arrival of the oil lamp.

It replaces all the candles, candles and lanterns on stage, and will itself be relayed by the introduction of electric light.
