BRUSSELS - Front-of-pack nutrition labeling to be "simple" but "not simplistic," "free from value judgments," with "calorie and nutrient information per serving," and "take into consideration the criteria that guide choice of nutrients and other non-nutritive components of food".
23 MEPs from all political groups ask for it in a letter sent to the representatives of the European Commission Frans Timmermans and Stella Kyriakides.
For Italy, the letter is signed by 9 MEPs of different colors and by the Italian Farmers Confederation (CIA), Confagricoltura and Federalimentare.
Among the signatories there are also some of the largest national federations of the agri-food industry (in addition to Italy, also Spain, Greece, Belgium, Poland and the Czech Republic), and think tanks from Austria, Estonia, Slovakia and the United Kingdom.
The nine Italian MEPs are Nicola Danti (Italia Viva-Azione - Renew Europe), Marco Campomenosi (Lega - ID), Paolo De Castro, Alessandra Moretti, Camilla Laureti and Pina Picierno (Pd - S&D), Nicola Procaccini, Pietro Fiocchi and Vincenzo Sofo (Brothers of Italy - Ecr).
