With the current food prices, shopping isn't much fun.
With a few tricks, consumers can still save money in the supermarket.
Munich - The cost of living in Germany is becoming increasingly higher.
For many consumers, a visit to the supermarket is anything but relaxed.
An improvement in the cost explosion is not in sight for the time being - a further increase in food costs is much more expected.
Nevertheless, there is good news: With a few little tricks you can quickly save some money in the supermarket or discounter!
Four tips on how to do this.
Supermarket tricks: How to save money when shopping
Expert Martin Schechtel from the Institute for Service Quality told
RTL exactly how consumers can spend less money when shopping
.
According to him, you can avoid unnecessarily high prices, especially for vegetables and fruit, by buying seasonal products.
“They are always cheaper,” says Schechtel.
Which foods are seasonal in Germany can be checked at the consumer center, among other places.
Accordingly, the seasonal fruits in winter are mainly apples and pears, as well as quinces until November.
Meanwhile, the vegetables are much more diverse: celery, numerous types of cabbage, pumpkin, carrots, parsnips, leeks or beetroot, the list is long.
Lamb's lettuce and rocket can also be grown in Germany all year round, and therefore also during the winter months.

A second trick for economical shopping requires a little more initiative, but is worth it: compare offers!
That sounds banal at first, but the right strategy is also important here.
Because instead of just browsing through the advertising brochure for your favorite supermarket, it makes sense to compare offers from different supermarkets and discounters and, if necessary, to split the weekly shopping across several markets.
If, on top of that, there are also relatively long-lasting foods on offer, according to Schechtel, it makes sense to buy these “in larger quantities in advance”.

According to the expert, a third way to get away cheaper in the supermarket is to buy no-name brands.
"Instead of the usual branded products, you can also try cheap alternatives," he continues in an interview with
RTL
.
The give is not only at the discounter, but also at normal supermarkets.

Buy products on offer in stock
Switch to no-name brands
write shopping list
Finally, as a fourth option, it could help to be a little stricter on yourself as a consumer.
How often do you walk through the supermarket or discount store and spontaneously grab food that catches your eye?
If you want to get away from spontaneous purchases, you should write a detailed list before you go shopping and stick to it.
This is a better way to avoid going home with lots of products that you don't need.
Consumers should also be careful with so-called deceptive packages, which are increasing in supermarkets.
