World Cup 2022: TV ratings for the opening game significantly fewer viewers than in 2018

6.21 million viewers watched the game between Qatar and Ecuador on ZDF. More than ten million people were interested in the opening of the World Cup four years ago, and the market share was also significantly higher.

The opening game of the World Cup between hosts Qatar and Ecuador (0:2) was watched by an average of 6.21 million fans on ZDF.

The market share was 28.2 percent.

5.43 million (market share: 26.3 percent) watched the pre-reporting immediately before kick-off.

The game was also broadcast live by the MagentaTV streaming service.

The reach on Sunday was well below the 2018 quota at the World Cup in Russia on German public television.

Hosts Russia's 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia was seen by 10.01 million viewers at the time, with a market share of 52 percent.

This game could also be seen in Germany late on Sunday afternoon.

In prime time at 8:15 p.m., the “Tatort” episode “Katz und Maus” won the ratings race with 9.25 million viewers.

6.14 million people were interested in the »Traumschiff« on ZDF.
