Femicides: 82 women killed this year, 42 by partners or exes

 Of the 221 homicides committed in the first nine months of this year (the same number as in 2021), 82 had female victims, compared to 90 last year (- 9%).


    In the family-affective sphere, 97 were registered, of which 71 with female victims;

of these, 42 found death at the hands of their partner or ex.

This is what emerges from the joint report "Prejudice and violence against women", edited by the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police.


    In the same period there were 4,416 sexual violence (+9% compared to 2021);

92% of the victims are women. 

The report, produced in collaboration with the La Sapienza University of Rome, took stock of the law on the Red Code, which came into force in August 2019 and introduced a priority lane for dealing with crimes against women, also providing for new cases and aggravating circumstances.

The highest number of violations in these three years is recorded on the measures of removal from the family home and the prohibition of approaching the places frequented by the offended person: from August 2019 to 30 September of this year, 6,499 crimes of this type were committed type (the victims are women in 82% of cases).

This is followed by the dissemination of sexually explicit images or videos, the so-called revenge porn, (3,496 crimes, 72% against women).

As for the first offense,

this year there is a 12% increase compared to 2021 (1,824 against 1,631).

The incidence of the violation sees Sicily in the lead with 17.4 crimes per 100 thousand inhabitants, followed by Valle d'Aosta with 17.2.

For revenge porn, 2022 shows a drop of 20%: 871 crimes against 1,090.

The incidence per 100,000 inhabitants sees Molise in the lead (7.5), followed by Sicily (7.2) and Sardinia (7).

72% of the victims are female.

Another case introduced by the Code red law is the compulsion or inducement to marry.

Since then, 48 episodes have been recorded.

There is a sharp decline this year, with 9 cases against 10 in 2021. 87% of the victims are women, 65% foreigners.

Unexpected data then for the crime of deformation of the person's appearance through permanent injuries to the face.

In the first nine months of the

year 74 episodes (+17% compared to 2021).

The rule was introduced with specific reference to the fight against gender-based violence (after the cases of women scarred by acid), but - the report notes - it has attracted into its sphere of application all the hypotheses previously attributable to the abrogated hypothesis of ' very serious personal injuries with deformation and permanent disfigurement of the face', resulting in a greater number of male victims in this case.

since the entry into force of the new law, in fact, out of 246 crimes committed, 76% of the victims are male. As regards the so-called spy crimes, indicators of gender-based violence directed against a woman as such, this results year stalking decreased by 17% (12,200 victims, 75% women).

Mistreatment against family members and cohabitants also decreased: they are 16,857 (-8%).

Slight growth, however, for sexual violence (92% of victims are women).

Most of the female victims of these crimes are aged between 31 and 44, 80% are Italian.
