This is a program promoted by Israel Railways, and it is another step in converting train traffic from diesel to electricity, for the benefit of improving air quality and improving service for train passengers.
The electrification of the track is expected to reduce the travel time from an hour today to only about 45 minutes.
The electrification works are expected to begin in the coming year by Israel Railways after the approval of the plan by the government.
In addition, the plan includes provisions defining for the first time a self-licensing mechanism for Israel Railways.
The mechanism will allow the speeding up of the licensing procedures and the assignment of responsibility to the railway as the performing body of these works.

The plan is part of the railroad electrification project led by the National Infrastructures Committee
, which began with the electrification of the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem high-speed rail line, and continues with additional railroads throughout the country with a scope of about 500 km.

The lines are faster, more accessible and above all green and friendly more for the environment."
