(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 22 - A 34-year-old Roman was arrested by agents of the Trastevere police station in Rome for sexual assault against two foreign students which took place in the capital on October 14th.
The rapes allegedly took place in Trastevere not far from the university accommodation where the two victims studied.
The man was reached thanks to the complaints of the victims and the testimonies.
The investigations, coordinated by the prosecutor's office, led to a precautionary measure in prison.
The arrested person is a taxi driver, Antonio Macrì, who physically attacked the two young women, students of John Cabott, around one in the morning on 14 October.
The footage extracted from the video surveillance circuits, present at the places where the violence took place that night, framed the 34-year-old.
Specifically, one of the two victims told the policemen that he had spent the evening in a restaurant in Trastevere in the company of one of his roommates and friends.
Both, around one o'clock in the morning, took a taxi and returned to the university accommodation.
Once they got out of the car they headed towards the lodgings but, along the way, one of the girls suffered an illness.
In the meantime, the 34-year-old, also a taxi driver, was waiting near the University, and taking advantage of the young woman's illness, he reached the girls behind her, forcing them to undergo sexual acts.
The two young women, however, managed to escape and ask for help, as well as to film the man.
Thanks to the description of the subject and the acquisition of surveillance footage, the investigators were able to identify the perpetrator of the violence.
