Italian police have arrested 49 suspected mafiosi in Lombardy.
They are suspected of having links to the Calabrian mafia 'Ndrangheta, the investigators said.
The suspects are said to have traded drugs and extorted and threatened people.
"I'm coming to your house today and I'm going to beat you to death, do you understand?" was heard in a wiretapped call released by the police.
The aim of the operation was to smash the 'Ndrangheta offshoot in Rho, northwest of the center of Milan, several media reported.
The Italian authorities regularly take action against mafia organizations.
The mafiosi earn their money with illegal businesses such as drug dealing or in the construction industry.
In Reggio Calabria in southern Italy, the gendarmerie and the financial police confiscated assets from three real estate and hotel entrepreneurs from the area on Tuesday, with an estimated value of 40 million euros.
According to the investigation, two of them are said to have obtained their entrepreneurial position with the help of the local 'Ndranggehta clans.
