To save money in a context of energy crisis, going without light decorations for Christmas is not the easiest solution.

On the Champs-Élysées, emblematic place of the Parisian end-of-year enchantment, "it will be between 50 or 60 euros per day of electricity consumption", specifies Johan Hugues, co-director general of Blachère Illumination.

At a time of the energy crisis and soaring electricity prices, what about individuals who want to decorate their Christmas tree with light garlands?

"All recent light garlands are equipped with LED lamps, so they are garlands that consume very little, around 4 - 5 watts", explains Rémy Rousset, sobriety specialist and founder of Lite, a company specializing in the analysis of data from energy consumption for individuals.

Unplug the garlands if the Ecowatt indicator is red

“If we take the example of a household, which lights up four light garlands for Christmas, four hours a day, for 20 days, this will amount to consuming 1.6 kWh.

This is equivalent to 0.28 euro cents in electricity bills”, calculates the expert.

Lighting up a Christmas tree therefore costs less than one euro and consumes very little energy.

However, lighting all the trees at the same time could create tensions on the electricity network.

"The days in December when the Ecowatt indicator will be orange or red, it will be essential to switch off your equipment to avoid unnecessary tension", reminds Rémy Rousset.
