When it comes, it comes: Naomi Faran, the founder of the Moran Choir, was recently informed of her winning the AM award for a life project • "I am very excited

"I'm very excited. They chose me as part of an amazing group of artists, the greatest we have - Shalom Hanoch, Chava Elberstein - precisely me, conducting choirs," says Naomi Faran (70), founder of the Moran Choir, who was recently informed of her winning the Am Prize. Y for life.

"The win shines a spotlight on two worlds, the world of conducting and the world of choirs, and I feel that I proudly represent the choirs in Israel. Not only Moran, but the vocal field in Israel," she said.

Faran, born in Kiryat Ono, sang in choirs since childhood, and later studied conducting and education.

In the early 1980s, as a young music teacher, she moved to Moshav Beit Yitzhak, where she founded a small school choir - but at the same time dreamed of another choir.

"I dreamed of a choir that could sing both classical and Israeli repertoire, and always in the most fun way."

The choir founded by Faren became in a short time one of the most important musical bodies in Israel.

"I was very ambitious and always looked ahead. Just three years after the choir was founded, we visited Germany for the first time, and a year or two later we performed with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra."

What was the state of music teaching then compared to today?

"In the 1980s there was a strong desire to promote and progress, to create new music education methods and develop music teaching. Today, unfortunately, there is a big retreat. Lots of music teachers are being kicked out of the system, and traditional music education is shrinking."

The Moran Choir has grown and developed over the years, and today it includes five different ensembles - from "Tiny Moran", a choir intended for children aged 5-7, to the Moran Singing Ensemble, the choir's adult ensemble.

"There is nothing more exciting than hearing children sing accurately, beautifully and with intention."
