If you are going to give birth in the winter or if you are already after giving birth and you are not sure how to dress your baby - this article will put you in order

There is nothing like the excitement that accompanies the first wash of the baby's clothes that is about to be born.

The machine is filled with tiny, really tiny items, including bodysuits, hats, miniature socks, pants and overalls, and these expand your heart for those who are going to join you in just a moment.

A newborn baby, whether in winter or in the hot summer months, will always wear one more layer than you will.

Neely Mauld Fortis

, postpartum companion and supporter, movement instructor from birth, facilitator of workshops, mothers' circles and baby massages, explains that a tiny newborn is born without the ability to regulate its body temperature until about a month and a half old, and this is the reason for wearing the extra layer.

So how to dress?

In winter, when you wear a thin long shirt - your baby should wear two layers: one thin, and on top of that another thicker one.

However, you should remember that you are also wrapping the baby in a blanket which is another layer, so you should avoid overdressing.

It is advisable to dress soft babies in the winter in two layers as follows: a bodysuit and overalls over it.

If you go outside on a cold day, also add leggings under overalls or regular pants and socks.

When the house is heated - take off a layer

, remember that excessive clothing restricts the baby's movement and may delay his natural development.

Just imagine what it's like to move around comfortably and try new things when you're dressed in at least three layers.

Clumsy, right?

Make sure the house is heated, place the baby on a surface and not directly on the floor, and if you are not sure - check if he is cold.

How will you know if the baby is hot or cold?

Some say that if the hands or feet are cold then the baby is cold, but this is not true.

To know if a baby is hot or cold, put your hand under the back of his head.

If he is cold - then your baby is cold, and he should be dressed warmer or covered with a blanket.

Expose the feet

when the house is heated, take off Baby's socks and leave him with pants and a bodysuit.

The baby senses the world through the body, mouth and feet.

When the legs are bare - he feels the floor, he has resistance from the surface to his movements and later it will be easy for him to turn over, crawl and learn the world.

As with everything in parenting (and in life) find the balance - make sure the baby is warm enough but not too much and remember that clothing also has an effect on his development.

The Jama application was established with the aim of responding to mothers of babies between the ages of birth and three, and to gather for them content, activities, tips from experts and videos that will accompany them throughout this challenging period.

All the contents in the application "grow" together with the baby and are precisely adjusted to the stages of his development, so that the mothers receive only what is relevant to them and interests them at any given moment.

The Jama app is the place for mothers in Israel to meet and get to know other mothers around them, and to create new and exciting friendships in the fascinating journey.
