Johnny Depp, who for 15 years played the iconic pirate captain in the five parts of the Pirates of the
Caribbean
saga (2003), would be back.
A source revealed to
The Sun
tabloid on Nov. 23 that the actor's name was spotted on a set sheet for the shoot.
This paper would indicate that the father of Lily-Rose Depp would be expected on the set, somewhere in the United Kingdom, at the beginning of next February.
The same person, however, reportedly said that this project was only "in its early stages and there was still no director attached to the film", which nevertheless has already been dubbed
A Day At The Sea
.
A female pirate?
However, other sources have denied this information to the
Daily Mail
.
In 2018, screenwriter Stuart Beattie argued that the
Las Vegas comedian Parano
(1998) would not be revived in this sixth installment, because the team wanted to bring "new energy" to the piracy saga.
One of the ideas was to come up with a female lead character, and the name Margot Robbie was brought up.
In the process, Johnny Depp fans, unable to imagine one (or another) Jack Sparrow, launched a petition which collected more than 870,000 signatories.
But the Australian actress will not play the role of a female pirate.
“We had an idea and we developed it for a while, years ago, to have a more feminine story – not totally feminine, but just a different story – which would have been really cool, but I believe that they don't want to do it,” she said of Disney Studios in the
Vanity Fair
columns this month.
A contract worth 300 million dollars?
Would the fan petition, together with other factors, have had its effect?
This summer, he said to himself that Disney would have approached the actor after he won his lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard last spring, to offer him a contract at 300 million dollars (288,108,000 euros) .
But the star of
Edward Scissorhands
(1990) would still have producers' rejection in his throat.
He indeed said during a hearing of his trial that he did not want to work with Disney again since he was ousted.
behind the camera
In addition, the 61-year-old American actor would have other projects to his credit.
While filming
Jeanne du Barry
, Maïwenn's next film,
The Hollywood Reporter
revealed on August 15 that the man who had already directed a film in 1997 (titled
The Brave
) would return, 25 years later, behind the camera.
Johnny Depp is reportedly planning to direct a biographical drama about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, which is scheduled to shoot in the spring of 2023.
Between Disney's about-face, his return to the big screen as Louis XV, his own feature film project, or his unexpected appearance at Rihanna's "Savage x Fenty" fashion show, one thing is certain: the actor chameleon is on all fronts.
And don't get discouraged.
