Scarves are used every day in winter.

They also get dirty accordingly quickly.

But how often should the scarf end up in the washing machine?

When the wind whistles around the houses in autumn and winter and snowflakes fall from the sky, a cozy scarf keeps your neck warm.

Many people wrap it up over their mouths up to their noses, which is particularly common with the oversized models.

Just by speaking, however, a lot of spit and saliva ends up in the textile, where germs and bacteria multiply quickly in the warm, humid environment.

Skin particles, cosmetics, sweat as well as coughing and sneezing fuel the whole thing - skin irritation and impurities can be the result.

So that the scarf does not become a breeding ground for nasty bacteria, it should end up in the wash regularly.

How often should I wash the scarf?

So that soiled scarves always remain hygienically clean, you should wash the scarf at least every three weeks.

Gladly also immediately after recovering from illnesses, or if you have spilled food on your scarf.

If you have several scarves to choose from, it is best to change them regularly so that the neck warmers can air out in between.

Wash your scarf – that's how it works

Scarves are often made from delicate fabrics, so you should take extra care when washing them.

Unless otherwise stated on the washing label, it is best to do the following:

  • Hand wash your scarf.

  • To do this, run lukewarm water into the sink and add some baby shampoo to the water.

  • Let the scarf soak for about 10 minutes, then wash it out.

  • Never wring out the fabric, just squeeze out the water - otherwise the fibers will suffer.

  • Then let the scarf dry on the drying rack.

Scarves would shrink or get out of shape in the dryer.

In winter, it is best to dry wet laundry on the balcony or in the garden - otherwise there is a risk of mold.

If this is not possible, you should at least not place the drying rack in the bathroom, bedroom or kitchen and ventilate it sufficiently and heat it properly.
