An actor from the Netflix series »Squid Game« has been accused of sexual harassment in his native South Korea.
The 78-year-old actor O Yeong Su is accused of a case from 2017, the South Korean prosecutor said, according to information from the AFP news agency.
According to media reports, O had "immorally touched" a woman at the time.
This information was "not factually incorrect," said a representative of the prosecutor's office, without giving further details.
The 78-year-old became the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Squid Game in January.
Following the allegations against O, the South Korean culture ministry reportedly decided to halt the airing of a government commercial featuring the actor.
The gritty South Korean Netflix series "Squid Game," in which people in debt struggle to survive playing children's games, became the US streaming provider's most successful production after it started in 2021.
The South Korean film and television industry is increasingly on the road to success in Hollywood: In 2020, the film »Parasite« by Bong Joon Ho won the Oscar for best picture.
At the same time, allegations of abuse have been made in recent years against prominent representatives of the film scene in South Korea, including the late director Kim Ki Duk and the actors Cho Jae Hyun and Oh Dal Su.
