(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 25 - Long-term energy contracts or the coverage of many companies are expected to run out in the coming months, and the situation will worsen further if adequate policies are not adopted.

The survival of European industry is clearly at risk: there are signs of production relocation and that in the future thousands of companies will close, especially SMEs", warns the federation of industrialists BusinessEurope.

“We urgently need a revolutionary solution at the European level to counter soaring energy prices and to ensure that Europe remains an attractive destination for business. These differences and individualism will not be allowed to trump the need for collaboration and European solidarity and the Council and the European Commission will have to make more effective efforts to promote this cooperation".

This is underlined by the final declaration, from Stockholm, of the council of presidents of the 40 federations of entrepreneurs who are members of BusinessEurope.

An alarm addressed in particular to the upcoming Swedish presidency of the European Union "in order to put in place immediate solutions to the energy crisis and at the same time enhance Europe's competitiveness, in order to support employment and growth in the future".

"European companies urgently need emergency measures to deal with the energy and regulatory space crisis".
