"The Christ Child invites you to his market, and anyone who comes should be welcome" - with these words, the Christ Child traditionally opens the Christmas market in Nuremberg.
In recent years, the Christkindlesmarkt had fallen victim to the Covid 19 pandemic, and now an actress was allowed to speak the prologue again: Thousands of visitors, big and small, came to the opening ceremony early on Friday evening to listen to the words of the Nuremberg Christkind.
Actress Teresa Windschall spoke the traditional Christmas poem from the gallery of the Frauenkirche in an angelic costume with golden wings.
The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany.
It traditionally opens on the Friday before the first Advent and lasts until Christmas Eve.
In 2019 it attracted around two million guests from all over the world.
According to the city, a similar number of visitors could come this year.
