Rock vs. Laughter: Gori Alfi Harim, an electrifying show with some of the hottest musicians in Israel Israel today

2022-11-25T11:08:15.137Z

From soul and funk songs to rock and rap songs, the talented comedian put on a show that was impossible not to enjoy, even though it didn't have a clear concept • But when names like Paul Trank, Ninet Tyve and Ravid Plotnik are by your side, it's simply impossible to fail

Guri Alfi is a multifaceted man, known in Israel as a comedian, actor, stand-up artist, director, screenwriter and TV presenter.

In short, a talented guy - even very talented.

What a lot of people don't know is that before breaking into the world of comedy, he formed the Pankenstein Band.

Yes, in addition to all the many fields in which he is involved - he is also a musician.

When is it enough to rest?

It is not clear.

He demonstrated the proof that music is still in his blood last night (Thursday), when he held a performance at Hangar 11 in the Tel Aviv port under the amusing title "Making money with friends", in which he hosted some of the hottest names active in Israeli music today.

During the rather long evening (almost two and a half hours, we don't know), each of them went on stage to perform with thousands of two or three songs, and it was cool and electrifying to God as much as it was also very eclectic.

fulfill a dream.

The show opened with Alfie performing some funk and soul songs, which managed to sweep the audience away.

Equally, those songs felt as if they came from nowhere: no explanation was given as to why exactly these songs were performed, and not any other song in the world.

This happened several times during the performance, and it was impossible not to feel that Alfie decided that he had a dream to fulfill - to perform a musical performance in front of thousands of people - and he would do it with the songs he liked, no matter what.

So what if there is no context, just song after song after song.

After Alfie finished his shining moments as a rock star, he began to bring on stage the guests that all the spectators were waiting for: Jimbo J, Sima Nun, Guy Mezig, Paul Trunk and Yoni Bloch, and even two surprises that almost caused the audience to tear the place apart from ecstasy – Ninet Taib and Rabid Plotnik.

Each of them came up separately to perform two or three songs together with Alfie, and together he performed cover versions of all kinds of songs with them (from the heavy rock version he and Bloch sang to Anna Zak's "Go to Sleep" to the excellent arrangement of Taib's "She Knows", which He sang along with her, which included a mash-up of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir", and of course some of their own hits.

Since, after all, this is one of the most successful and talented comedians in Israel, he did not miss the opportunity to tear up the audience with a sequence of jokes and funny stories between his solo songs and the many collaborations.

His well-known charisma was at its peak mainly in these moments, but it was not spared from anyone even when he sang - and he showed everyone once again what a huge privilege we have to watch such a talented person do so well what he loves so much.

But, and there must be a but, as written earlier - everything was very eclectic.

Alfie did not explain at any point why he chose to sing the funk and solo songs he performed and did not mention his musical background.

He just performed them.

He did it well, no doubt, but everything felt without a clear concept, as if we were watching a musician singing whatever songs he wanted, just because.

Although they were performed superbly, it was a kind of ordered and puzzling chaos.

The roof was almost dismantled.

Bottom line, and that's what really matters, it was a fun evening, even a lot.

Alfie and his friends almost managed to blow the roof of the hangar into the sky, and it was impossible not to enjoy the many songs and excellent collaborations.

The slight sourness that remained after him only concerns the presentation of the things, which did not happen at all and therefore caused a slight feeling of bewilderment.

But, and there must be a but, the bottom line is that Alfie won a super-fun show bursting with talent, which with the right polish can become a kind of permanent musical-comedy festival that will become a must-attend event every time.

Great performance.
