A police officer's security camera captured the rescue.
A nine-year-old child was saved from drowning in extremis, thanks to the intervention of rescuers from the city of Aurora, in the United States.
The young boy had entered a frozen section of a retention basin in an attempt to retrieve his football.
As he walked on the ice, it gave way and he fell into the freezing water.
His mother rushed into the lake to try to save him, without success.
She too found herself trapped in the ice.
The firefighters and the police, who intervened on the spot, managed to save the mother and her son.
Several members of the security forces threw themselves into the water while others threw a rope to bring the frozen victims back to the bank.
"I thought my son wouldn't be here for Thanksgiving," the boy's mother said, still in shock.
The nine-year-old was taken to an area hospital.
He came out with a new football offered by the police who participated in his rescue.
