(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 25 - ''We want to dedicate this show to the martyrs who have been and continue to be women.

We hope that the public can use this theater and this work to pray for them''.

Emma Dante explains with these words the decision of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma to link the youth preview scheduled this evening to the day against violence against women of Francis Poluenc's drama ''The Carmelite Women's Dialogues'' which will open the season of the Capitoline opera on Sunday 27 November .

'These Carmelites speak with themselves and with God in a contemplative silence that should teach us so much.

What was considered a 'useless prayer' during the French Revolution, today we should take it up again and use it against this unbearable violence and the feminicides which, unfortunately, are on the rise''

said the director presenting the show with superintendent Francesco Giambrone and maestro Michele Mariotti, who will be on the podium.

''It is a work by women - observed Giambrone - and we are a theater that always wants to have clear essential values, to give beauty and emotions without forgetting what is happening around us''.

The superintendent, in recalling that November 27 will be the opening date for the next seasons as well, let it be known that the public's desire to return to filling the theaters is confirmed by the 10 percent increase in the number of season ticket holders despite the difficulties and uncertainties.

''Ours is a courageous season - added Mariotti - which aims to arouse the curiosity of the public.

We open with a

hymn to the freedom of the sacrosanct rights of women and of each of us''.

Alessio Vlad, artistic director of the Rome Opera, recalled that Poluenc's drama, inaugurated in 1957 at La Scala, ''is one of the great masterpieces of twentieth century musical theater with one of the most beautiful endings in the entire history of opera' '.

The premiere of the Dialogues des Carmélites, which will be broadcast live by Radio3 and delayed at 9.15pm on Rai5, will be followed by four performances until 6 December.
