ZDF has a new head of sports.
As announced by the public television broadcaster, Yorck Polus will take over as head of the sports department from January 1st.
The 52-year-old has been editor-in-chief of the "Sportstudio Reportage" since the beginning of 2018.
He has been with ZDF since 2000.
His specialties are Nordic skiing, handball, rowing, canoeing, cycling and triathlon.
He reported on several Olympic Games and Paralympics.
"Yorck Polus is an outstanding sports journalist, moderator and an experienced editor-in-chief who has pushed the development of our media library offering in the 'Sport' genre significantly," said ZDF director Norbert Himmler.
"He is ideally suited to further developing the main editorial team for sports."
Polus takes over the duties of Anke Scholten.
She has been in charge of the sports department on an interim basis since long-time sports director Thomas Fuhrmann switched to the post of ZDF sports strategy officer on October 1st.
The 56-year-old advises the director “on program and strategic issues” and observes “the international and national sports markets”.
The background to Fuhrmann's change is that his wife Bettina Schausten has been editor-in-chief of ZDF since October.
She would have become her husband's direct superior.
