(ANSA) - MILAN, NOVEMBER 26 - The treasurer of the LucaCoscioni Association Marco Cappato reported himself this morning to the carabinieri of the Duomo company in Milan for having accompanied Romano, an 82-year-old of Tuscan origins and resident to a Swiss clinic, where he died yesterday by assisted suicide in Peschiera Borromeo, in the Milan area.
Cappato risks "up to 12 years in prison", as he himself underlined.
"It is unworthy for a civilized country to continue to tolerate the exile of death in clandestinity" he repeated several times.
Incaserma this morning Cappato presented himself with the lawyer and secretary of the Association, Filomena Gallo.
Cappato was tried for having accompanied Fabiano Antoniani, known as DJ Fabo, to Switzerland and acquitted, after a sentence by the Constitutional Court which sanctioned the legality of assisted suicide in Italy, the patient who requests it is suffering from an irreversible pathology, a source of intolerable physical or psychological suffering , fully capable of making free and informed decisions.
But he must also be kept on artificial life.
This is the second case of a person who does not fall into this category whom Cappato accompanied to Switzerland and for whom he reported himself.
In fact, this summer he had accompanied Elena Altamira, who was terminally ill with cancer, to Zurich in August.
