(ANSA) - MODICA, NOVEMBER 25 - Figurative arts that are imbued with strong realism, to look like photographs, shots of reality of a Sicily that welcomes but also wastes, rejects, mixes.

Works that become an instrument of denunciation as well as a story, in the paintings of Giovanni Iudice, 52, from Gela in the Caltanissetta, to whom the Fondazione Teatro Garibaldi of Modica is dedicating an anthological exhibition from 7 December to 5 February 2023 in the exhibition space of the former Carmine convent in the city of Ragusa.

An ambitious project organized by the Foundation in partnership with DSE Pubblicità, and in synergy with "Domenico Sanfilippo Editore", publisher of the newspaper "LaSicilia".

A focus on thirty years of art with works created from 1992 to 2022, through an artistic journey that is composed thanks to the availability of private collections.

From the first drawings of the nineties to contemporary works.

Thirty years of history, of different cycles, of returns and of experimentations, represented through the eyes and the hand of a sensitive artist who knows how to interpret the beauties of a land, of its people and of those who have crossed it, an emotional, original and varied, which will captivate the viewer.

And maybe it will make him ask questions.

After all, Iudice was the first to deal with the theme of migrants not with the aim of surprising, due to the expressive capacity of the artistic language used, but to reflect.

"Endowed with remarkable drawing and pictorial tools - comment the president Domenica Ficano and the superintendent Tonino Cannata of the Garibaldi Theater Foundation - Iudice has interpreted Sicily as a metaphor for contemporary society. He painted the life of the popular districts, he painted the beaches populated by bathers in the long Sicilian summer , he painted the migrants who arrived on the same beaches as illegal immigrants in the dark of the night".

An exhibition dedicated to the various faces of our land, "with pictorial works that look like photographs of a changing context, just as the society that surrounds us is changeable - explains Antonello Piraneo, director of the newspaper "La Sicilia" - Giovanni Iudice's exhibition is the litmus test of attention we pay to culture in the broadest sense of the term".
