Vladimir Makei, 64, the Belarusian foreign minister, died suddenly. For the Ukrainians there is the hand of Moscow as he "was one of the few who was not under Russian influence". The Kremlin declares itself "shocked" (ANSA)

It is yellow on the sudden death of the Foreign Minister of Belarus, Vladimir Makei.

The news was given by the ministry's spokesman: "Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei died suddenly", said Anatoly Glaz quoted by Sputnik Belarus, taken up by the Russian agency Ria Novosti.

Makei had scheduled a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov for Monday.

The reaction from Moscow was immediate.

"We are shocked": these are the first words, on her Telegram channel, by the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

But for Kiev, the shadow of the Kremlin would be behind the death.

“Vladimir Makei, 64, the Belarusian foreign minister, has died. There are rumors that he may have been poisoned. Makei was considered a possible successor to Lukashenko. He was one of the few who was not under Russian influence. Rumors say that this could be a warning to Lukashenko".

Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry writes on Twitter.
